New Staff at CBS!

Please join us in welcoming Andrea Cottrell.  Andrea is the Program Coordinator, Sr whose main responsibilities include Center events and helping Jane and Jes with whatever they might need.  Andrea lives in Tempe along with husband Craig and their two children, Davis (12) and Madeline (10).  When not at work, Andrea enjoys shooting hoops with her son, going for horse-back trail rides with her daughter or driving the golf cart for them both!  She is a Certified Leader in her local 4H Equine club and is also a part-time farrier.

We are also excited to welcome Kate MacCord as the Assistant Project Coordinator for the Center. Kate is in charge of all your repository needs, is the managing editor of the MBL History Project, and is the project manager for all digital HPS initiatives run through the Center. Kate is also a PhD candidate in the History and Philosophy of Science, and has recently returned from a school year in Finland where she worked with the Jernvall Evolutionary Phenomics Laboratory at the University of Helsinki. In her spare time, Kate enjoys knitting arthropods, watching classic films, and riding her bike at full speed through the valley.

The Center is moving to expand its online presence and has enlisted Matt Chew to manage the Center’s social media efforts. Matt received our first Biology and Society Ph.D. (2006) and stayed on to teach History of Biology: Conflicts and Controversies (BIO316/HPS330) and continue his research on the history and philosophy of invasion biology. Matt is married to SOLS Associate Professor Julie Stromberg. They spend as much time as possible at their historic South Phoenix farmhouse with a pack of rescued and foster dogs and a lot of landscaping and gardening tools.

Given that the Center is a hub for a lot of activity, we are very glad to welcome our new student worker, Jenney Craer.  Jenney is a Barrett student, and will be graduating in spring 2014 with a BS in Biology + Society, and a minor in History and Philosophy of Science, with plans of pursuing a Master’s here at ASU, then on to medical school. When she is not working in the Center, she is probably studying. Otherwise, she is spending time with her husband Joe and their two dogs, Oliver and Delilah. She loves cooking and baking, gathering with good company to share food, and travels whenever she has the opportunity (usually somewhere with good food).
