MBL-ASU History of Biogerontology Workshop

The Center for Biology & Society is hosting the first MBL-ASU History of Biogerontology Workshop. This specialized workshop gathers together a panel of pioneering historians of biogerontology with leading experts in the history and philosophy of science, with the aim to lay the foundation to rapidly advance this important field of research.

Taxonomy and the Next Generation of Biology

Dr. David J. Patterson, Senior Scientist of the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, MA, visits ASU on April 23. Dr. Patterson speaks to SoLS faculty and students about how to keep the structural elements of taxonomy in the burgeoning cyber-infrastructure, such as he developed for the "Encylopedia of Life".

48th Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology

The 48th annual Joint Atlantic Seminar for the History of Biology is to be held at the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The seminar is supported by the ASU Office of the President through the MBL-ASU Collaborative for the History and Philosophy of Science. The seminar opens on Friday, April 26, with a workshop on digital HPS and informatics.

2012 ASU-MBL History of Biology Seminar

This year’s seminar explores the history of visualization in biology from the late 19th to early 21st centuries and is organized around different visual scales beginning with microscopy and working up to macroscopic perspectives offered by satellite imaging and remote sensing.
